Being a representational painter, many aesthetic qualities of my art work are rooted in a traditional appreciation for light’s effect on color, form and space within the natural world. Generally, I express this through themes of purpose within the human body or in our outward pursuits. However, narratives of my paintings often deal with the language of Modernism. Finding the artistic purposes of non-representational artists interesting as well, I often use a hermeneutical approach towards the intents of Modernists in developing subject matter as a basis for my own narrative work. My paintings, imbued with traditional properties of form, color, space, illusion and narrative, are figurative interpretations on life and language.
